Does this happen to anyone else?

Whenever I draw on paper, or just in my notebook, everything comes out fine.

But whenever I draw in my sketchbook, I start to mess up hell of a-lot, and just erase and erase, and nothing comes out smooth (and not because of the texture).

I think it is because of anxiety attacks, wanting it to come out perfect. I usually rip out tons of pages.

So does this happen to anyone in particular? Haha, just wondering. I was quite curious about this. (or anything similar/ other way around to this).

Notes

  1. ishot-the-moon answered: This happens to me all the time, the best thing I do is get out the notebook i draw in & quickly sketch what I want. then do it in the Pad
  2. razorthecurse answered: always…
  3. hetaotaku17 answered: sort of…
  4. something-pumpkin answered: Defiantly. Half of my sketchbook has been ripped apart.
  5. yossdillo answered: Yea, a lot, but thankfully not as much as I used to. Maybe because when it’s where it’s not your sketchbook it doesn’t feel as important?
  6. unopenedsketchbook answered: Pretty much all the time. I think it’s because drawing in a sketchbook makes it more daunting and pressures me to draw something that’s ‘good
  7. talebyheart answered: It happens.. all the time :S
  8. stardew answered: here
  9. eccentricitymadness answered: you’re not alone
  10. agentboo answered: asdfg yes. All the time. Ususally the things I draw best I end up drawing on lined paper -.-

me EVERYDAY at EVERY attempt :’)
  12. sorry-page-not-found answered: There, there. You’re not the only. I certainly dislikes when this happens.
  13. skryble answered: It totally happens to me. But i’m not dedicated enough of an artist to blame it on anything but myself.
  14. jzazy answered: For me, this happens when I try to ink a sketch. It looks fine with pencil and guidlines and just goes down the drain when I try to ink it.
  15. skorch1494 answered: It might be because when you draw when you didn’t sit down to, you dont care how good it looks, and it turns out better because you dont care

  18. joeymabob answered: it used to happen alot until i realized that it isnt anything professional trolololololololo i didnt really draw that well anyways so yeah :3
  19. thenorcalnative answered: You should purchase One Drawing a Day! They talk about it in the intro. Draw just to draw, not to make perfect works of art.
  20. missartsee answered: all day. every day.
  21. leftforlove answered: Yeah. This happens to me. I end up only half-using sketchbooks :(
  22. murderme-mercifully answered: I’m just like that. I’ve stopped using a sketchbook and now I just use loose-leaf drawing paper. (:
  23. written-rebellion answered: All the time! It’s like painting something in an expensive frame that was only bought because the art is expected to be perfect!
  24. krisgoat answered: Same here! But I cut out my good drawings from loos sheets then tape them into my sketchbook. :3
  25. viciousflo answered: yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeees
  26. curiousfreak answered: YES. I thought I was the only one. It’s like when it’s the sketchbook, you don’t want to mess up, you want it to be perfect.
  27. pirateoverlord answered: Yes, this does happen to me quite a lot.
  28. dai-nihil answered: yep. Also notebooks vs loose paper; I end up with five drawings in the book and fifty loose pages of good stuff stuffed into the cover
  29. thuthunguyen answered: Yes omg LOL My aunt has two buy me so many notebooks for school. She says, “She’s just going to draw in half of them, why not get her a lot?”
  30. short-and-artsy answered: all the time….
  31. the-fearsome-jabberwock answered: it happens to me all the freakin’ time..
  32. annaoi answered: I had that too,but I think it’s anxiety, ordinary paper poses a ‘meh’ moment when we draw, but the sketchpad makes us think we hv 2 b perfect
  33. skywwhale answered: Happens to me, i started drawing in my notebook again and now i cant draw in my sketchbook. Let alone in pen like i loved to.
  34. archaicmodernist answered: happens to me too, bro.
  35. shirohibiki answered: I can draw doodles in my notes that look okay, but when I go to draw in my sketchbook, I panic. I don’t even know why. :l

do with all the clean white space making your mistakes more obvious than lined paper would. It makes you worry
  37. leocartoon1 answered: I don’t really know why, but in paper I can draw just fine, however, digitally I suck lol Maybe it’s the feel of the paper.
  38. attiea answered: I always find the roughs end up better then the new one but sometimes it just helps to redraw instead of erasing.
